It looks like 2012 will hold opportunity for vacation rentals. However, like any other year in the travel business, there'll be plenty of competition for vacationers.

Trip Advisor released a 2012 survey that said 79% of respondents plan on spending at least $3,000 on vacations in 2012, while 21% plan on spending $10,000 or more. Cultural trips will likely increase, as will international travel to Paris, London and Rome. Stateside, the most popular cities are expected to be Las Vegas, New York City and San Francisco, but beach vacations such as Island escapes will continue to be popular. Cultural trips are expected to increase, so if your vacation rental is near a cultural attraction, you may want to update your listing with new or enhanced details. Of course, including more photos of attractions in your area will help you compete with hotels and resorts.

Vacation rentals themselves are increasing in popularity as consumers continue to look for value. According to TravelandLeisure.com, hotels will be getting more facelifts in 2012, which will increase the pressure on vacation rentals to stay updated in both decor and amenities.
